La setmana passada va acabar el Blok 2, moment doncs per - tal i com vaig fer amb el Blok 1 - fer una valoració de les assignatures cursades a la UvA.

Macroeconomics: Growth Theory (321BE): és a dir, aprofundiment en el model de Solow (és a dir, un festival d’equacions). El professor (K.B.T. Thio) explica a partir de les seves slides, les quals mai són vistes totes durant les 2 hores setmanals de lecture, però s’espera que l’estudiant es llegeixi pel seu compte la meitat del “totxo” (“Introducing Advanced Macroeconomics, Growth and Business Cycles”, P.B. Sørensen and H.J. Whitta-Jacobsen). La cosa pinta difícil. Aquesta és l’assignatura convalidable per Macroeconomia I de la UPF.

Political Economy: Dialectical Methodology (336BEU): A aquesta m’hi vaig apuntar per pura curiositat i després de la primera classe en vaig tenir prou per decidir no seguir-la. Es tracta d’una assignatura els continguts de la qual són el llibre que el professor ha escrit (“The Capitalist System; a systematic-dialectical presentation”), amb la particularitat que el professor (G. Reuten) és un senador del Socialistische Partij.

Així doncs, en aquest Blok 2 només he seguit una assignatura ja que el repte d’aquesta tardor era donar el primer pas per a aconseguir el que anomeno “la quadratura del cercle“: treure’s la carrera en 4 anys a pesar de fer un Erasmus de 1 any. Per tant, en comptes de fer una segona assignatura a la UvA la idea era estudiar pel meu compte per aprovar l’examen de Microeconomia Aplicada a la UPF del dia 17… *

(*Malauradament, el més que probable suspens amenaça la consecució de tal fita)

The reason: the North-South EU connection developed in 153G during this fall comes to its end since Héctor is flying back to BCN (he´s coming back on the 31st) while Tapio is coming back to Finland, and not returning, on the 20th.

Feel free to drop by for a drink, or two, (non-alcoholic ones too) and try a bit of “torrons”. This time the drinks are not on us since the Christmas budget has emptied our pockets…

So, Thursday night was an odd farewell night; rather than being a farewell of a person, it was the farewell of 153G’s life together. Actually, people was a bit “disoriented” at the beginning, I mean, some people asked us about the real purpose of the meeting because they’re still seeing my roommate for a week and they’ll see me again from the 31st on. Another interesting thing I could notice was that the night looked like pretty much the same as one of the first weeks’ room parties: people chatting and moving to one conversation to another one while having drinks and snacks (last night torrons were a great success). However, last night there was a novelty: everyone was asked to pose in a photo with 153G roommates.

Last night was a nice night to close the first chapter of this so called Erasmus experience…

Hoy, 5 de diciembre, es un día muy especial en los Países Bajos, especialmente para l@s más pequeñ@s. Esta noche es la pakjesavond (la noche de los regalos), en la cual Sinterklaas (San Nicolás) cabalgando en su caballo, Amerigo, y su ayudante, Zwarte Piet (”el negro Pedrito”), reparten regalos a los niños y las niñas neerlandeses.

Sint-Nicolaas, más conocido como Sinterklaas, es un personaje mágico cuyo origen se remite a San Nicolás de Bari (c.270 - 6/12/343), obispo griego de la ciudad de Myra (actualmente Demre, Turquía).

Según la tradición, Sinterklaas y su ayudante llegan cada noviembre a un puerto (distinto cada año) del Benelux en un barco cargado de regalos desde España(*) . Después de la cabalgata, primero en el puerto de llegada y después en todos los pueblos y ciudades, Sinterklaas permanece escondido hasta hoy noche (5 de diciembre), en la cual deja los regalos en las casas (el mismo anochecer del día 5 en los Países Bajos, la mañana del día 6 en Bélgica).

(*): Antiguamente se decía a l@s niñ@s neerlandeses que, si se portaban muy mal durante el año, serían llevados de vuelta por Sinterklaas a España como castigo …
